Creative Energy Is Magic

We are all creative. But somewhere along the way, too many of us were told we weren’t. Maybe it was a teacher who said your drawing wasn’t “good,” or a boss who dismissed your ideas. Or maybe it’s the cultural story that creativity belongs to “artists”—something extra, not essential.

I want to flip that story.

Because creativity is not a luxury. Creativity is energy — and creative energy is pure magic.

It fuels our work, our problem-solving, our relationships, and our resilience. When we engage in creative acts, big or small we light up new neural pathways, release stress, and spark fresh ideas. We shift our state of mind. We expand what’s possible.

Creativity Doesn’t Have to Be Complicated

Here’s the good news: you don’t need a degree in art or design to exercise creativity. You don’t even need to call yourself an artist.

You can:

  • Scribble shapes in your notebook.
  • Sing along to a song in the car.
  • Snap a quick photo of the light on your desk.
  • Play with watercolor blobs on paper.

That’s it. Simple acts like these can wake up your creative side and infuse your day with new energy.

My Own Return to Painting

Recently, I started painting again—not realistic scenes or polished pieces, just layers of color and abstract shapes. I call it “blobbing paint.” I don’t worry about results. I let the colors guide me.

And what’s happened? My energy is higher. My ideas come faster. I feel less tired and more alive.

That’s the magic of creative energy: it doesn’t just produce “art.” It produces momentum, inspiration, and possibility.

Creativity in Leadership and Business

In my work as a designer and creative leader, I see this same magic at play. When teams are encouraged to experiment, to play, to tap into their creative side, they solve problems faster and connect more deeply with their audience.

Design isn’t just about making things pretty—it’s strategic communication. And creativity is the fuel behind it. It’s what transforms messy ideas into clear messages, confusion into clarity, and brands into experiences people trust.

Keep the Creative Energy Going

We need creativity now more than ever. Not just to make art. To stay resilient, to grow businesses, to connect as humans.

So give yourself permission to play. To make marks on a page. To try something that isn’t about outcomes, but about energy.

Because creative energy is magic. And the more we practice it, the more unstoppable we become.

Steps to show as I was working with watercolors I started by just blobbing colors on a wet sheet of paper. I noticed that I was getting a blob at the center. This reminded me of a peacock and I started painting the peacock.
